Patrick M. Cannell focuses his practice on insurance matters involving coverage and general liability defense. Patrick received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Akron School of Law and his B.A. cum laude from Xavier University. During law school, Patrick was president of the Moot Court Honor Society and a recipient of the CALI Award in administration of criminal justice. Patrick obtained his Ohio Bar admission in November 2018 and is also admitted to the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio. Patrick is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association where he serves as Chair of the Insurance Law Section. He is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys. Patrick is a frequent presenter on insurance coverage topics including most recently in April 2025 on the topic of “Ohio Insurance Coverage Cases from the Courts of Appeal and the Ohio Supreme Court: 2024’s Top Cases” at the OACTA Insurance Coverage Seminar. In December 2024, Patrick spoke at the Akron Bar Association’s Advanced Issues in Insurance Law program where he provided an “Insurance Coverage Case Law Update.” Earlier presentations include “Update on the Dispute Over Coverage for Business Interruption Claims Caused by Covid-19” at the 2021 Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Insurance Seminar. Also in 2021, Patrick spoke before the Ohio State Bar Association’s Insurance and Negligence Law Conference on the subject of “Risk Transfer – Additional Insureds and Contractual Indemnity – Superhighway or Route 66?” In 2022, Patrick discussed the insurance aspects of hazing in his presentation, “Hazing: Accidental “Occurrence” or Intentional Act?” at the CMBA’s Insurance Law Section Winter Seminar.
